Featuring Lumina Albert, Associate Professor, School of Business, Colorado State University
Dr. Lumina Albert began her path for justice in Kerala, India. Her culture, traditions, and faith have been deeply rooted in her life. And that life has taken her to many places and opportunities far beyond India.
Lumina’s keen mind and business interests led her to an academic path in the United States. She earned an MBA (with a dual specialization in Marketing and Human Resource Management) and a PhD in Business Management. Following her doctoral studies, Lumina received the prestigious AAUW International Postdoctoral Fellowship to continue her research at the Department of Psychology at Stanford University and at the Graduate School of Business at Stanford University. Lumina’s research seeks to extend knowledge of social justice, ethical behavior, and interpersonal relationships in the business world.
Lumina’s academic achievements focused her career path. She is currently Associate Professor of Management, OtterBox Faculty Fellow, and a Daniels Ethics Fellow in the College of Business at Colorado State University. She is an award-winning teacher, and has been honored with the College of Business Excellence in Teaching Award and the ‘Best Teacher of Colorado State University' Award, which is given to outstanding educators at CSU by the CSU Alumni Association and Student Alumni Connection.
Lumina extends her teaching with many other activities supporting research and advocacy. She is an Associate Editor of Journal of Managerial Psychology. Her research has been published in scholarly journals such as Entrepreneurship Theory and Practice, Journal of Business Ethics, Human Resource Management Review, Organizational Psychology Review and Group & Organizations Management. She has published a wide range of articles and research reports.
In addition, Lumina is the Faculty Advisor of the student-led Colorado State University organization, The Justice Club, an organization committed to seek justice against oppression, and provide education on social justice issues, including racial justice, human trafficking and the commercial sexual exploitation of women and children. She is also a central organizer of the Northern Colorado Human Trafficking Symposium, a premier and distinctive conference that seeks to engage and educate on the issue of human trafficking through research, training, and collaboration. Lumina’s service at CSU and to the Northern Colorado Community has been recognized with the College of Business Outstanding Service Award, CSU Multicultural Distinguished Service Award, and the Distinguished Service Award from the Office of International Programs at CSU.
Lumina also has served as a consultant with organizations such as Procter & Gamble, International Justice Mission and Child Relief & You (CRY) on issues ranging from strategic public relations to organizing social marketing campaigns. She serves on the Board of Directors of New Horizons House, an international organization providing holistic restoration for survivors of human trafficking and sexual abuse.
In her many activities and initiatives, Lumina has demonstrated an integration of her heart for justice with her interests and skills in academics and business, setting an example for students, educators, and business professionals.
