VOLUNTEER TO CEO: AN ADVOCATE IN THE FIGHT AGAINST SEX TRAFFICKING:

Featuring Clayton Butler, CEO of Agape International Missions

January 2023

Clayton Butler was announced as the new CEO of Agape International Missions (AIM) in August of 2022. Not only does Clayton bring years of anti-trafficking experience to this role, he has over ten years of service with Agape International Missions in various capacities.

With what began as a three-month commitment to serve in Cambodia with AIM, Clayton has the distinction of being the first long term volunteer for Agape International Missions. In this capacity, he began to serve Cambodia and address the issue of sex-trafficking by discipling young men in Phnom Penh Cambodia. In this period of time, AIM’s began focusing more efforts in Svay Pak and asked Clayton to focus on stopping trafficking before it starts in Svay Pak. With the AIM team, various aspects of AIM’s work and ministry grew in Svay Pak including kids club, Lord’s Gym, and the AIM School.

Throughout his years of service with AIM, Clayton has served as Anti-Trafficking Program Coordinator, the Director of Siem Reap Programs, the Director of Prevention Programs, and the Country Director in Cambodia. In each of these roles and areas of responsibility he has remained passionate about furthering AIM’s work to prevent, rescue, and restore. His service to AIM has furthered the establishment of programs as well as help in the mentorship of staff members of AIM.

Not only has Clayton personally served tirelessly to address the evils of human trafficking in Cambodia with AIM, but his family has together committed to ending this injustice. When Clayton and his wife Emily were married, they made the decision to move back to Cambodia to work in Siem Reap and help with new programs AIM was establishing in Siem Reap. Both Clayton and his wife Emily served in a number of positions in Siem Reap and Phnom Penh - witnessing and working through various stages of growth and development of AIM’s work in Cambodia.

Outside of his work with AIM, Clayton’s experience has been focused on Justice. He served as an agent for the Department of Alcoholic Beverage Control and conducted investigations into instances of sex trafficking and substance trafficking.

Clayton’s consistent commitment to AIM and the pursuit of justice in Cambodia is inspiring not only because of his personal passion but because of his willingness to serve longterm in various capacities. His story of first time three month volunteer to CEO and the work he has done on behalf of AIM’s ministry is a testimony to what can be done when we are faithful with what God has asked us to do.
