Julie Bindle is a fierce advocate for women and children. She has been involved in the global campaign to end violence against women and children since 1979 and is a recognized expert in this work. Her investigative and journalistic efforts have exposed areas of exploitation and abuse against women and children around the world and raised awareness of these concerns with mainstream media.

As a journalist, she has written on rape, domestic violence, sexually motivated murder, prostitution, trafficking, sexual exploitation of children, and stalking. Her first investigative piece was published in 2003 on the issue of the sexual exploitation of young black men in countries such as Jamaica by western female sex tourists.

Julie’s investigations and journalism efforts have led her to expose the grooming gangs in northern towns in England in 2007. She has traveled to Dubai to report on fake refuge for women and children in the desert; Nevada to report on the reality of legalized prostitution; to Jordan and Lebanon to expose the extent of violence against women in the world’s largest refugee camp; to India, Israel, and California to investigate and expose the surrogacy trade; to Cambodia to investigate the breast milk trade; and many other countries and areas of the world to expose and investigate abuse and exploitation of women and girls.

In addition to journalism, Julie has authored over thirty book chapters and academic reports on topics relating to gender inequality and abuse. Her books bring light to issues such as pornography, sexual violence, and prostitution. In order to author one of her books, The Pimping of Prostitution, she spent two years conducting interviews in nearly 40 countries. Julie visited brothels and interviewed pimps, pornographers, survivors, and women who were currently sold by pimps. This work exposed the harms of the global sex trade and advocated for holding sex buyers accountable and the abolishment of prostitution. She also produces radio documentaries on violence and exploitation of women and girls.

Julie is also the co-founder of Justice for Women, an organization founded in response to cases of spousal homicide and the inequality for women who kill their abusers. She is also a board member of SPACE International, a global organization who seeks the abolition of the sex trade and has members from countries around the world.

Julie Bindel’s work and dedication to exposing and ending violence against women and girls has brought light to this injustice that countless women face.
